About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Polish Village, Kurowski Sausage Shop stands as a beloved institution for anyone seeking authentic Polish groceries and exceptional butcher services. Located at 2976 N Milwaukee Ave, this charming shop is more than just a place to stock up; it’s a true cultural experience that transports you straight to Poland through its thoughtfully curated selection of meats, snacks, and specialty foods.

Kurowski Sausage Shop distinguishes itself with an incredible variety of products that go far beyond the usual sausage offerings. Loyal customers rave about the authenticity and freshness of everything from rich, smoky Polish sausages to beautifully prepared premade dishes, artisanal cheeses, and traditional sweets. As Sarah Moyer puts it, you’ll find “Authentic Polish sausage, barrel dill pickles, fresh rye bread, delicious pastries, Polish snacks, candy and more!” This carefully preserved taste of home draws enthusiasts of Polish cuisine and culture alike.

What truly elevates the shopping experience here is the warm and welcoming atmosphere, created by staff who are deeply knowledgeable and proud of their heritage. Kasia Zajac recalls how the staff member Mariola went above and beyond, even taking time to help vacuum-seal their sausage and ham for secure travel. This kind of personalized care makes Kurowski not just a grocery store, but a destination where customers feel valued and connected.

The store doesn’t just attract locals; it’s worth a trip from out-of-state. Customers like Kasia have traveled from Houston just to shop here, a testament to the unbeatable quality and wide selection that include a complete produce section to complement the deli and butcher products. It’s a treasure trove for those who appreciate true craftsmanship in sausage making and crave the genuine flavors of Poland.

Definitely best shop in Polish Village. All these products you need to try. Don't think only about the snacks, you will find also premade dishes, meat, cheese and sweets from Poland. Really it's not only the sausages. Much recommended to try few of these.

Venerable Polish deli and sausage shop; all manner of European foods and drink. Helps a LOT to be able to read/speak the language, especially at slower times/days.

It's worth the flight from Houston. Made great shopping there. The lady at the store Mariola made us feel very welcomed and helped us with air vacuuming the sausage and ham securely. Definitely will come back for delicious and fresh products.

One of the last if not the last real Polish Sausage shops left in Avondale. You simply cannot beat - I repeat cannot beat their prices on meats cooked or fresh. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS LITTLE GEM. You may never see this again.

“Authentic”-Kielbasa craving? Look no further than Kurowski. Never in all my years of shopping here have I ever found an English-speaking-Polish-Foodie able to describe the differences of the +20 types of Smoked-Sausages they make here ( & sell here as well). It is a place that smells as good as it tastes. Their Hot Food bar offers a great Polish Lunch selection, as well as the refrigerated display case featuring my fav- a Carrot “Salad”/Slaw w/Raisins, as well as other pickled items and coleslaw. Sadly, since The Pandemic they’ve stopped selling “bones” inna Blue-Plastic-Barrel. The piggy bones were great to use for soups or stocks, & my Honduraino buddy literally drooled(& kissed me) over the “trotters” I gifted him that were pulled-outta that Blue Barrel. The southern 1/2 of the stores sells all sorts of non-meat items from European Butter & Cheese to Dill Pickles inna barrel to Gluten-Free-Breads made w/Sunflower Seeds! “Pro-Tip”:: For your next picnic ( or cocktail gathering)- may I suggest getting a few pairs of “Kabonosy” + also request a 2” thick slice (use Sign-Language-to-show-Thickness) of their Smoked-Gouda Cheese ( pronounced-“How-dah”)> and b4 your picnic cut into small cubes /slice the Kabonosy into lil bite-sizes> & toothpick-em-together! (Maybe go crazy& skewer a Gherkin on it too!) (Insiders alert- on the top of the Stainless counter, over by The scales are broken Kielbasa packaged and sold for a steep discount) A bit of Chicago Retail History, this address was formerly the home of “Animal Kingdom” Pet-Shop. Wanna Snake? Wanna Lizard? Wanna Ocelot? Turtles-big and small? Wanna goldfish ( to feed to the Turtle!?) Even an occasional Capuccian Monkey ? ( think Organ Grinder) All sorts of legit & questionable live animals used to be sold here Kurowski Sausage is - CHICAGO’s VERY OWN!

This place has seemingly been around forever. I love going in there for the smells. I usually only come here to get fresh kielbasa for our Christmas breakfast that last all day. The kielbasa is great. The service was excellent. The price for the sausage was less expensive that I thought. If course I'll be back here.
